"On a Sailing Ship" by Caspar David Friedrich

"On a Sailing Ship" by Caspar David Friedrich

A Perfect Match is Found

_Some people love the valleys.
_Some people love the mountains.
_Some people love the oceans.
_I love the flowing fountains.

_Some people love the forests,
_While some people love the glens.
_Some love the mountain meadows,
_While I love writing pens.

_Some people love the cities.
_While some people love the malls.
_Some people love their little towns,
_And I love waterfalls.

_Some love their rainy days.
_And others love the sun.
_Some love their archery,
_And some of us love guns.

We all find different things to love
_That make the world go round,
For everything that we might love,
_A perfect match is found.

    Sunrises do it for me.

A quietly positive piece. Just light for the festive season.

I, too, love writing pens. And writing. And poems. Thank you for this. Indeed our varied gifts and differences make the world go around.

The last line of the penultimate stanza together with the last line of the final stanza put in mind “matchlock.” I can’t think of any better nod to military history.

C.B. that is a great thought about the matchlock!

Roy, thank you for this pleasant, tranquil poem. Of the things you mention, I choose fountains, writing pens, malls, and guns.

Roy, excellent – if you expect it, then you are more than likely to get it! And expecting good things is good for body and soul! Thanks.
