‘Promise’: A Spring Poem by William Tryon

.

Promise

While winter holds her icy grip
__There’s promise in south breezes
That make their yearly northward trip—
__Springtime, she comes and teases.

The snow and ice as water run forth
__As she firmly squeezes
The cold and windy heart of the north
__With warm and southerly breezes.

In rivulets the ice chunks flee
__In front of warm spring breezes
As children chase them down with glee—
__Springtime, she comes and pleases.

William P. Tryon resides in the Albany region of upstate New York. He is a farmer, an excavator, a patriotic speaker, and a writer with numerous publications of his writings over the past 20 years, most recently being “A Farmers Thanksgiving prayer” published in The Epoch Times newspaper in Nov. 2022.

You’re right. This is that time of year when winter still tries to hold us in its grip and spring teases.
