‘Why Did Lyric Poetry Die’ by Robert King

poems 'Why Did Lyric Poetry Die' by Robert King

Why did lyric poetry die?
‘Cause caterpillars cannot fly
And no longer morph to butterflies

Pegasus now has lost his wings
To logic, not to lyric, clings
Concerned solely with words’ meanings

Can lyric poetry be restored?
Not unless we hear the words
They’ll make beauty as they find their form.

Robert King is a retired lawyer and poet living in California.
