‘Ode to Antifa’: A Satirical Poem by Warren Bonham

Ode to Antifa

Kids who get infuriated,
and whose anger’s unabated
have one place to find relief, a
self-help group that’s called Antifa.

They are not discriminating,
they accept those advocating
hatred for our U.S. nation,
those who helped build its foundation.

They protest in peace and quiet,
in what’s mostly not a riot.
They have cocktails that they carry,
mostly not incendiary.

Wearing masks that hide their faces,
they take over public spaces,
but with such consideration—
we accept this irritation.

They protest for all who couldn’t
and hate fascists (but who wouldn’t?)
as they demonstrate with furor,
fighting each imagined Fuhrer.

How they act, at times seems scary,
but for them it’s salutary.
We’re so blessed love forms the essence
of these harmless adolescents.

As this process gets repeated,
views they have get deeply seated;
more and more they get aggressive,
then voila! a new Progressive.

Terrific satire, Warren, in which you take aim and hit your targets with great accuracy. Your language drips with irony — “such consideration”, “mostly not a riot”, “mostly not incendiary,” and the one that made me vomit in my mouth a little: “we’re so blessed love forms the essence/Of these harmless adolescents.” You nailed them, — the narcisstic shallowness of “mostly ignorant” twits possessed of a delusional Messiah complex.

The good news is that Trump is set to declare Antifa a terrorist organization. Long overdue.

I just saw the news about Antifa. I like your “mostly ignorant” comment. Very fitting.

Great satire, Warren. Love the rhyme of “furor” with “Fuhrer”.

I’m glad you enjoyed this one! That particular rhyme fit pretty well with the theme. I don’t think many Antifa members really know anything about the real Fuhrer.

Warren, your Antifa satire is as twisted as they are! Excellent work!

I’m baffled by their thought process (or lack thereof). Twisted is a good way to describe them

Antifa types are mostly cowards — why have the masks otherwise?

I couldn’t agree more. I could add a few more terms to describe them beyond just being cowardly, but I’d probably get in trouble for breaching the rules of decorum.

The poem is too good for the topic, Warren, which is why, I suppose, you ironically call it an ode. Appreciate your effort, as always.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! An Ode seemed to be a fitting title, although I’m uncertain as to whether an official ode has a specific form that should have been followed for it to qualify technically.

Thank you for telling it like is! As leftists DENY that Antifa exists. I heard there is a Socialist Rifle Association~ made of Fem Boys. There is an Antifa board game! Source: Carl Higbee Show at Newsmax.com. Poems like this can touch all Americans! I have written hundreds. It is a poetic venue to touch everyone and yours is one of my favorite poems here. Fantastic!

I’m not familiar with Higbee, but it sounds like I need to rectify that. Thanks!

Warren, this well-crafted poetic blast of sharp satire rips the mask off this violent extremist movement and exposes the thugs behind the “peaceful protest” lie, and I thank you for it. Andy Ngo (a brave journalist brutally attacked by one of its members) wrote “Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy a book of Antifa’s history” that I believe is a must-read for those wanting to make sense of the evil overlooked during Antifa’s reign of “peace”.

I’m ashamed to acknowledge that the “mostly peaceful protest” statement was made by Ali Velshi, who is a Canadian journalist who graduated from the same university as me. I will definitely read Ngo’s book.

Couldn’t help smiling—with glee, now that those innocent juveniles stand to be tried as terrorists.

When Napoleon had to deal with rioting mobs in Paris, he issued this order to his troops: “Give them a whiff of grapeshot.” After a few volleys the streets were cleared quickly, you can be sure.

If our police had similar freedom to do the same years ago, when Antifa was terrorizing our cities, those masked babies would have run home screaming to their mommas.

As a Brit, I especially appreciated this poem, because we now have the delights of our own antifa. Skilful satire, I loved reading it.

As a Brit, I especially appreciated this poem, because we are now privileged to have our own version of antifa on this side of the pond. Great satire.
