poems 'It’s No Surprise' by Russel Winick

.

When you see
Inflation rise
It’s no surprise…

When you see
All the goods
In short supplies,
Work disincentivized,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
An open border,
Law and order
In demise,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
Who denies
The Constitution applies,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
Vows of unity
Scrapped for uncompromise,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
No core value underlies
Harm will arise,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
The Squad advise
And who complies,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
Acts all logic defies,
Trusting those who brutalize,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
A decision so unwise,
World safety jeopardized,
Great shame it buys,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
Those who criticize,
Fourth Estate vilifies
With truth anesthetized,
It’s no surprise…

When you see
The constant lies
It’s no surprise…

Many a hero dies
It’s no surprise…

When you see
Joe Biden’s eyes.

Okay, I’m quite sure the rhythm of this is an echo of a song from some famous musical — it’s ringing somewhere near the back of my mind — Am I right, Russel?

Well, Cynthia, if it is, it’s not conscious on my part. Of course, for me that’s nothing unusual.

    Hello, Russell!
What a terrificly woven tapestry of present times. Very compelling.
    That last line….dynamite!

Thanks Patricia. So much of what is happening is just so sad to see. Poetry has become therapeutic.

You make a sad point very well in this spot-on poetic observation, Russel. Those hollow, soulless eyes say it all.
