The Last Petal
In a garden old and wise,
Where blooms and seasons intertwine,
A rose stood tall against the skies,
Its petals bright, its heart divine.
But time, unseen, began to stir,
A single petal loosed its hold,
And with it fell a whispered word,
A story ending, softly told.
One by one, the petals fell,
A silent dance, a slow goodbye,
The colors dimmed, the garden’s spell
Faded like a waning sky.
Yet in the fall, a truth was found,
That life’s a bloom, both bright and brief,
And in its cycle we are bound
To moments sweet and touched with grief.
As the last petal kissed the breeze,
A tender bud began to grow,
A promise made, a future teased,
Within the heart of time’s soft flow.
For life is like the rose’s bloom,
Each petal falling, one by one,
But from the barest, darkest gloom,
New life will rise, as sure as sun.

The Last Petal gallops along faultlessly. I especially liked the second stanza, and the line, ‘Faded like a waning sky’ brings a wonderful image largely through its unusual wording.
The simplicity of the vocabulary, too, makes this poem accessible to all.

This is wonderful writing! Your second line, especially, entrances me: “Where blooms and seasons intertwine.” It is so visual, I imagined the stems of flowers literally intertwining with each other, as they figuratively intertwine with the seasons. Definitely, keep writing!
