.

Unsocial Addictions

Why do some people lie, brag, or act mean?
It must pump them up, like a jolt of caffeine.
But soon they come down, right to where they have been,
And can’t get back up, till they do it again.

.

.

Sex Education

One morning in our classroom for fifth grade,
I saw “penis,” “vagina,” “intercourse,”
Words on the blackboard stunningly displayed,
That rumored “sex stuff” launching with full force.

Today it starts in second grade instead.
Words like “transsexual,” “drag queen” are stressed.
Themes now deemed fit for filling each young head,
With leftists proud of how far they’ve progressed.

.

.

Family Estrangement

When the grief from estrangement
__Expands to unbearable,
Change, although hard, is what
__Makes pain reparable.

Most folks believe they’re just
__Knowing and kind,
But they must learn cues from
__A differing mind.

.

.

Projection

When most people volunteer feelings,
About what’s perceived on your shelves,
In fact what they’re often revealing,
Unwittingly is of themselves.

.

.

Russel Winick recently started writing poetry after ending a long legal career. He resides in Naperville, Illinois.

Those certainly are punctuation marks concerning present day social ills! There is a a blatant message right on point and accentuated by keeping the poems short and insightful.

Great ones, Russel! My favorite is “Sex Education,” because it shows so clearly how the world has changed in just 20 years.

I remember the old version growing up… but I believe fifth grade is too young for all that, and schools still taught a leftist idea of sexuality back then. Suffice it to say that I don’t believe having learned the leftist view, let alone at such a young age, did me any favors.

Thanks Josh. Yeah, 5th grade sex ed didn’t help me much either, given how many years it was before I put any of that education to good use

Exactly, children that age have no business knowing about that stuff… I don’t think learning about it “on the street” would have been much worse.
