poems 'Unspoken Moments': A Poem by Michael Pendragon

.

Unspoken Moments

A sunpatch nap the first warm day of Spring,
A curled up kitten sleeping in your lap,
A country walk down lanes where robins sing,
The surge of joy in every thunderclap
And burst of rain that sets one’s spirit free.

A book by Dickens, Stevenson, or Poe,
A hand, pressed tight, that wears a band of gold,
Two pairs of eyes locked in a candle’s glow,
Two pairs of arms that lovingly enfold,
A Banbury Cross baby on my knee.

A boardwalk stroll, a salty ocean breeze,
Watching the sky to catch a falling star
Or sunbeams shooting through the Summer trees,
The thrill of driving solo in my car
Nowhere to go and all the world to see.

Unspoken moments words cannot express,
The deeper feelings passed from soul to soul,
An understanding we alone possess,
A wonderment too perfect to extol—
The love that grows inside of you and me.

Michael, unspoken moments are often the most blissful as your poem extols in highly descriptive imagery. I was particularly taken with your rhyme scheme that requires adept poetic thought and planning.

Thanks so much Roy. I actually don’t plan out my rhyme schemes; they simply develop as the poem progresses. Once the first stanza is complete, I only have to make sure that the subsequent stanzas follow suit.

This is a wonderful piece, Michael, with a litany of heartwarming feelings and visions and memories all being shared with what I would designate a ‘priceless soulmate’. Thank you for the portfolio of exquisite memories – 🙂

How wonderful to find your poetry here. I recognized your name from way back when I subscribed to Romantics Quarterly (is the journal defunct?) and re-read a poem of yours in the 2004 issue. I hope to read more of your work here.

Thanks so much, Cheryl. Sadly Romantics Quarterly is a thing of the past. Editor/Publisher Kevin N. Roberts passed away in 2008. His widow, Janice Thompson has been publishing The Scarlet Literary Magazine, but I believe that’s currently defunct as well.

The thrill of driving solo in my car to wonderment too perfect to extol–those very ideas–fill me with gratitude for your well-spoken phrases, Michael. I know you have a busy poetic life, and hope you’ll notice the appreciation.
