‘Teddy Roosevelt’s Fraternity’ by Alec Ream

.

for DKE

We know each guy, and each knows us,
No big deal and no big fuss,
Tabernacling through this life,
Share the joy and bear the strife.

So what, amid this toxic day,
If one might jaunt into the fray?
We stick together thick and thin,
And should one fall? We all pitch in.

I have always admired Teddy Roosevelt. He kept little snippets of his sayings around the house, and often quoted from them. One of them I committed to memory. It is as follows:
Aggressive fighting on the side of Right is the noblest sport the world allows. Your poem has that spirit.
Too bad so few indulge in it today.

Thanks Sally and CB – DKE housed and fed me from 2008-2015, essentially the Great Recession. In tandem / SDG, I was printed in Great Britain 2013 – that got the ball rolling. Along with The Lyric, The Society of Classical Poets are the goal posts of my writ. If I can keep it between these 2, I’m good to go. Who’d argue with publishers located in Jericho and Mt Hope? CB: get The Lyric’s Winter issue if you want to know how much it means to throw the football in front of the Berkeley Deke House. Will never forget that day in 2008.
