‘Savannah Blossoms’: A Poem by Margaret Brinton

Savannah Blossoms

Blossoms dress the trees
__On Southern parkways
Where petals glow like silk
__If skies are fair,
And a busy stir of bees
__Within the nectar
Allows the hummingbirds
__A rightful share.

The blossoms do comply
__With nature’s calling
As butterflies approach
__In cautious dare,
And the artists at their easels
__By the roadside
Declare in vivid strokes
__What Grandeur there!

Margaret Brinton has lived in San Diego’s inland valley area for over forty years where she taught and tutored. Her poems have recently been published in California Quarterly and Westward Quarterly and The Lyric with upcoming work in the greeting card industry.

    Dear Margaret,
Having had an early morning on the porch enjoying the trees and birds, the joy and awe that you convey in your poem resonate with me greatly today. Thank you for painting this lovely scene.

This poem conveys the beauty of nature in a vivid way that stirs the heart and soul. I loved the interplay of the bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies on the flowers so neatly depicted. I was surprised you wrote one featuring Savannah!

A lovely description of mindful observation, Margaret. Thank you. I was happily surprised by a fat Robin perched on a nearby branch this morning enjoying his own observations.

What a vivid picture you’ve painted, Margaret. For a short piece, the imagery is very memorable.

    Thanks for the read.

    Dear Margaret —

I never fail to enjoy the way you meticulously present a simple description of your joy in nature in all its forms. You are alive to everything, and I thank you for caring enough to pass it on to the rest of us.

Lively imagery, and I absolutely love the form and language. This poem’s like a picture shot at the right moment when nature was bestowing her beauty to the fullest. Thanks, Margaret!
