‘Make Room, He’ll Come In’: A Poem by Warren Bonham

Make Room, He’ll Come In

Have you spent much time wandering, feeling distressed,
and upon your arrival, found no place to rest?
You can’t possibly know what it’s like till you’ve been
where you longed to be but found no room at the Inn.

And you know they’d have made room for someone who was
a celebrity since that’s what everyone does.
But there’s always a room in the lowliest place
where nobody with status would dare show their face.

But the true King arrived in the most humble way.
He was born in a manger, where He slept on hay,
and though He could have ruled from a glorious throne
instead, He walked amongst those who were all alone.

So, when you lie exhausted, with no hope in sight
as you dread the arrival of your silent night,
at long last you will hear when He knocks at your Inn.
If you open the door and make room, He’ll come in.

To find room, make room. Good advice in this over-occupied season, Warren. May we clear the space for our best friend. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

    Dear Warren,
I love how you have woven Revelation 3:20 into Luke 2, showing the Savior as the One needing a comfortable place to rest and the One providing the comfortable place to rest.
