Summer’s End
“Summer gently fades away,”
_Sadly sings the crow,
“Verdant Greens and golden scenes,
_Have lost their youthful glow;
__Twilight comes.”
Ghostly whispers haunt the winds,
_Trees begin to weep,
Keening all that heed the call,
_Of music from the deep—
__Sleepy drums.
“Summer’s time is all but spent,”
_Brightly sighs the finch,
“Now I sing farewell to things,
_For from the snow I squinch;
__Daylight dies.”
“Autumn slowly enters in,”
__Softly sings the thrush,
“Ripened hues and somber blues,
__Become an artful brush;
___Night arrives.”
