‘This, Too, Will Pass’ by Michael Charles Maibach

.

This, Too, Will Pass

This, too, will pass—
They like to say.
This pain now here
Will fly away.

This, too, will pass—
This broken heart,
This dear, sweet loss—
Tears me apart.

This, too, will pass—
A mindset, sure,
To meet life’s trials
And thus endure.

This, too, will pass—
They always say
Of others’ loss—
That is their way.

This, too, will pass?
You did not see
What once was mine,
Now tragedy.

This, too, will pass—
But until then,
I won’t be whole
‘Till who knows when?

This, too, will pass—
Without a trace,
But only with
God’s saving grace.

A bit maudlin, with predictable arcs, but all in all, not too bad.

I think your last line_is the most cogent and powerful of all! Life, is anything but a carnival of laughter
and clever cliches. Nor are past centuries…records of man’s kindness and gentility. In personal life,
Tragedy does hit us. Nothing maudlin about your poem, all can be overcome with faith.
A great poem! Reality, presented so all of us can comprehend life. Well done. Thank you!
