—after Longfellow’s “The Arrow and the Song”
I shot a bullet
Into the air.
It fell to Earth
I don’t know where.
A crowded bus?
A vendor’s cart?
An empty field?
A human heart?
I shot too many
Things today.
I need to put
My gun away.

As an avid supporter of the SCP and a competitive pistol shooter, I can tell you that no responsible legal gun owner (and the overwhelming majority of legal gun owners are very responsible) would ever dream of shooting a bullet into the air. Gun control laws only affect legal gun owners who commit very few crimes with their guns. Criminals do not care about gun control laws and commit the vast majority of gun related crimes with guns obtained illegally.
